{"id":45627,"date":"2020-02-19T21:30:08","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T21:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moderndriveline.com\/resources\/?p=45627"},"modified":"2020-02-19T21:30:08","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T21:30:08","slug":"heres-how-mdl-tail-housing-md-510-1000-1001","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moderndriveline.com\/resources\/heres-how-mdl-tail-housing-md-510-1000-1001\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW TO: Upgrade to MDL Tail Housing MD-510-1000 &#038; 1001"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REMOVE CURRENT TAIL HOUSING<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>&amp; INSTALL NEW MDL Tail Housing MD-510-1000 &amp; -1001<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-40497 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.moderndriveline.com\/mm5\/graphics\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/MD-510-1001-3-300x251.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" \/><\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Here are the simple steps:<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Transmission out of vehicle and oil drained.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>With a 13mm socket \u2013 remove the shifter.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>use a 5\/32 punch \u2013 drive out the roll pin holding the offset block to the rail.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>with a 15mm socket \u2013 remove 8 tail housing bolts.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Use a Hammer \u2013 knock off old tail housing hitting just below the shifter bolt threads, while holding the offset lever down with your thumb.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Inspect \u2013 case cover o-ring; should be soft and no cracks.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>with an 8mm socket \u2013 remove case cover bolts<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Use a\u00a0 Large flat-tip screwdriver \u2013 pry up on opposite corners until the cover is loose and SLIDE cover to the passenger side and lift up.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Inspect \u2013 nylon fork pads.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>Pay Attention \u2013 to the position of the ring around the selector&#8217;s finger in the case cover: All the steps go against the case cover.<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>use a 5\/32 punch \u2013 on the shift rail\u2026 from the neutral position turn the shift rail to raise the pointer finger up and slide the shift rail towards the back of the cover and then rotate down and partially drive out the SHORT roll-pin.
