Important Ordering Details
- Clutch Fork Compatibility
Ensure your clutch fork matches your bell housing. Chevy dimple forks are interchangeable, provided the fulcrum-to-bearing distance remains the same.- Short Dimple Fork (6.5” from Fulcrum to Dimple) – MD-401-3001
- Long Dimple Fork (7.0” from Fulcrum to Dimple) – MD-401-3000
- Early Clevis Fork (1955-62) – MD-401-3002
- Late Clevis Fork (1964-81) – MD-401-3003
⚠️ Note: This kit will not work with OEM Chevy II bell housings with a 7 o’clock opening.
- Throw-Out (T/O) Bearing Requirement
- A constant-duty, constant-contact T/O bearing is required. Most aftermarket clutch systems already come equipped with non-serviceable, sealed bearings.
- If your current setup lacks a constant-contact T/O bearing, you’ll need to switch to one.
- Bearing Retainer Guide Tube Check
- Ensure the T/O bearing does not drag on the retainer guide tube, as this may indicate wear or insufficient lubrication.
Installation and Compatibility Notes
- No Major Disassembly Required: This kit installs easily if your existing parts are compatible.
- Compatible with Long-Tube Headers: Fits vehicles with long-tube headers and factory mechanical linkage. If clearance issues arise, Modern Driveline offers internal hydraulic release bearings for additional clearance.
- Engineered for OEM Aluminum and Quick Time Bell Housings: Cast iron or other bell housings may require modifications for proper fitment.
Bleeding and Maintenance Tips
DO NOT Vacuum or Pump Bleed. This hydraulic system differs from brake systems. Using improper methods may introduce micro-bubbles and damage seals. Instead, pressure bleed from the top down.
Modern Driveline offers a hydraulic clutch bleeder kit, included in all master cylinder kits and available separately.
