Description
Installing a TKX in a Chevy C10 or C20 truck creates a shifter position problem that stock transmissions can't solve. MDL fixes this with precision machining that relocates the shifter stub to the factory OE position, putting the shift lever exactly where your hand expects it. This isn't a bolt-on adapter or afterthought - it's a complete transmission modification that requires careful machining and integration of custom components at our Caldwell, Idaho facility.
The tall shifter housing design addresses the unique cab geometry of C10 and C20 trucks, bringing the shifter up to a comfortable, ergonomic position that works with bench seats and stock floor configurations. Every modified TKX leaves our shop only after thorough quality inspection - no shortcuts, no compromises. This upgrade simply isn't available from TREMEC or any other source.
Beneath the custom shifter work, you're getting the full capability of TREMEC's purpose-built aftermarket 5-speed. The compact end-loading design delivers greater tunnel clearance and increased case strength compared to older designs. The three-piece ribbed aluminum housing provides structural stiffness while minimizing NVH. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze/carbon rings deliver smooth, crisp shifts even at high RPM. All gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel, with tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts to reduce noise and improve durability. Built-in reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch locations eliminate external wiring hassles.
The GM-pattern TKX bolts directly to Muncie-pattern bellhousings. The 7.2-inch input shaft also allows compatibility with GM close-pattern 3-4 speed bellhousings using the optional short input shaft kit. Integrated mechanical 7-tooth speedometer drive gear and two-wire OSS analog sensor provide flexible speedometer options. Recommended lubricants include Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
