Description
Converting your classic GM truck to a modern 5-speed shouldn't mean compromising on shifter position. Stock TREMEC TKX shifter locations often don't work for truck applications - the shifter ends up in the wrong spot relative to the bench seat or console. This MDL-modified TKX solves that problem by relocating the shifter stub to the proper OE position through precision machining and integration of new components, including a custom taller shifter housing designed specifically for trucks.
This is not a bolt-on aftermarket shifter - it's a complete transmission upgrade that requires careful hand-modification at our Caldwell, Idaho facility. Every unit is prepared individually to ensure quality and precision. Many hours of R&D went into developing this modification, and no upgraded TKX leaves here unless it's right. This configuration is exclusive to MDL and is not available directly from TREMEC.
The TKX platform delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity with engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM and safe shifts at 7,500 RPM. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while keeping the case slim enough to fit most transmission tunnels without modifications. Sintered carbon/bronze hybrid triple-cone synchronizers with a non-leading tooth profile deliver smooth, confident shifts even at high RPM. All gears and shafts are made from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) for increased durability under demanding conditions.
This transmission fits Chevy C10/20 trucks and utilizes the GM TKO bolt pattern with a 7.2-inch length input shaft. Features include a built-in reverse light switch, cruise control safety switch location, Ford mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive gear, 17-tooth reluctor wheel, and two-wire analog OSS speedometer sensor. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts reduce noise, while a caged needle bearing supports the mainshaft. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts using Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
