    Description

Converting your first-gen Camaro, Firebird, or early Nova to hydraulic clutch actuation does not have to mean compromising pedal feel or dealing with firewall flex. The common approach - bolting a 3/4" or 7/8" bore by 1" stroke master cylinder directly to the pedal - results in improper pedal pressure, heavy effort, and often requires raising the cylinder higher than the stock clutch rod hole. The MDL LF Series solves these problems with an engineered mechanical linkage system that preserves factory pedal geometry while delivering modern hydraulic performance.

The heart of this kit is the 0.750" bore master cylinder with a 1.4" stroke, producing 0.619 cubic inches of fluid volume - the sweet spot for most aftermarket internal and external slave cylinders. The mechanical linkage allows the full stroke of the pedal to maximize clutch modulation while keeping the cylinder perpendicular to the firewall, providing mechanical advantage that reduces the pedal pressure required to operate the clutch. The firewall plate mounts under your brake master cylinder or booster where the structure is strongest, eliminating flex under load.

The silver anodized billet aluminum reservoir provides a premium appearance while eliminating the leak-prone clamp connections found on cheaper systems. Every kit includes comprehensive installation instructions and MDL's unique One-Man Bleeder Kit, making the bleeding process straightforward even for first-time hydraulic installers. Pair this master kit with Tilton Engineering internal hydraulic release bearings or MDL LF Series external slave cylinder kits for a complete hydraulic clutch solution.

This kit relies on factory components being in good working order - any modifications or damage to the firewall, pedal, or pedal hanger will affect master cylinder performance. Uses DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid.

    FAQs

    Q. Why won't my transmission go into gear? A. Check your 'Master Cylinder throw distance, it should be 1.4". You may have to adjust your clutch pedal height in the vehicle. Q. Why is my pedal bottoming out ? A. Adjust your clevis and your pedal, balance the amount of adjustment you need between the two until your pedal does not bottom out anymore. Q. My pedal feels spongy and the slave cylinder does move right away. A. You have air trapped in the system, re-bleed the system again, follow the bleed instructions, or see the video on bleeding hydraulics on this page under the Video Tab Q. What type of fluid do I use in my clutch hydraulics? A. DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid only in this application. There is no need for high temp brake fluid. Q. Will this kit work a stock clutch pedal? A. Yes, it will fit an original factory pedal and an OE reproduction aftermarket pedal.
