Description
Second-gen F-body manual transmission conversions have long been plagued by heavy pedal effort and poor clutch modulation. The typical approach--mounting a short-stroke master cylinder directly to the pedal--results in excessive firewall loading and a pedal feel that makes stop-and-go traffic miserable. The MDL Light Foot (LF) Series Master Cylinder Kit solves these problems with an engineered system that delivers light pedal effort and precise clutch control.
The heart of the system is a 0.750-inch bore, 1.4-inch stroke aluminum master cylinder that generates the fluid volume required by today's hydraulic slave cylinders while minimizing firewall load. The master cylinder mounts on a steel firewall support plate that installs behind your brake master cylinder or booster--the strongest point on the firewall. This eliminates the flexing and spongy pedal feel that occurs when master cylinders are mounted to unsupported firewall sections.
The master cylinder positions directly in front of the clutch pedal and uses the stock clutch rod hole, maintaining the original pedal geometry GM engineers designed for proper leverage. This lets you capture the factory full swing of the pedal for maximum mechanical advantage. The remote plastic reservoir features OE-quality construction with integrated fittings--no clamps or hose connections that can develop leaks over time. The complete hydraulic system works seamlessly with both internal hydraulic release bearings like the Tilton 6000 Series and external slave cylinder setups.
Applications: 1972-1981 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. Uses DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid. Made in the USA with lifetime technical support from Modern Driveline.
