Description
Once you dial in the perfect clutch engagement height on a Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing, it needs to stay exactly where you set it. This anti-rotation stud threads into the original bearing retainer bolt hole, creating a positive mechanical lock that prevents the threaded adjustment collar from rotating during operation. Without it, vibration and clutch engagement forces can gradually shift your bearing position, changing pedal feel and clutch engagement point.
Installation is straightforward but precise. The stud threads into the bearing retainer using 5/16-18 threads -- the same thread pitch as the factory retainer bolts on Ford Toploader and TREMEC TKO/TKX transmissions. Tilton specifies Loctite 272 (red) thread locking compound for permanent installation and a torque specification of 16 lb-ft. Do not overtighten, as excessive torque can damage the transmission case threads.
If the stud extends past the face of the release bearing after installation, simply cut it shorter to avoid interference with the clutch assembly. This field-trimmable design accommodates the wide range of bearing height settings possible with the 6000-Series adjustable collar system. Compatible with all Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing applications on Toploader and TKO/TKX transmissions.
