Description
When you're pushing serious power through a C6 Corvette, you don't shop clutches by price—you shop by what won't fail. The Tilton ST-246 twin-disc clutch assembly delivers 1250 lb-ft of holding capacity through solid-hub cerametallic discs, built for street/strip applications where positive, precise engagement is non-negotiable. Unlike many performance clutches cobbled together from OEM-type stamped steel pressure plates with a floater tacked on, the ST-246 was engineered from the ground up as a true twin-disc performance clutch.
The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology from Tilton's OT-Series racing clutches—the same line that has won championships in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, SCCA, Formula Drift, and SCORE. Heavy-duty straps attach the high-mass pressure plate and floater plate to the cover, minimizing noise while providing clean clutch release. The floater plate is twice the thickness of most competing twin-disc clutches, which translates to superior heat dissipation, eliminated gear clatter, and consistent engagement under hard use.
The included billet chromoly steel flywheel features an 8-bolt pattern, 153-tooth ring gear, and internal balance. A precision register locates the clutch assembly for optimal balance—unlike the loose-fitting bolts and dowels common in stamped steel designs. The chromoly construction delivers the strength and durability required for high-torque, high-RPM applications.
This C6 Corvette application includes a Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing with height preset at the factory. The 6000-Series HRB connects directly to the OEM clutch line and provides 0.700" of piston travel with nearly 1.25" of height adjustability. The self-adjusting bearing maintains constant contact with the pressure plate fingers without preload, eliminating the gap issues and helper springs associated with traditional throwout bearings. Compatible with 26-spline transmissions (26 x 1-1/8"). Pilot bearing is not included.
