Description
When your C6 Corvette starts making serious power, the factory clutch becomes the weak link. The Tilton ST-246 twin-disc clutch and flywheel assembly delivers 850 lb-ft of holding capacity while maintaining smooth, streetable engagement -- the kind of driveability that stamped steel "performance" clutches with bolted-on floaters simply cannot match. Tilton engineered this system from the ground up as a true twin-disc performance clutch, applying nearly 50 years of championship-winning racing clutch expertise to the high-performance street market.
The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology with Tilton's OT-Series racing clutches, providing superior strength, stiffness, and dynamic balance compared to OEM-type stamped steel covers. The floater plate is twice the thickness of most competitor twin-disc clutches, machined from the same proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches. This design choice accomplishes three critical goals: it enables the use of sprung-hub discs for vibration damping, eliminates gear clatter at idle, and provides significantly better heat dissipation during aggressive driving.
The organic friction discs feature sprung center hubs that dampen engine vibrations and reduce gearbox noise -- delivering smooth engagement for daily street use without the harsh chatter common with solid-hub cerametallic designs. The billet Chromoly steel flywheel features a precision register that locates the clutch for optimal rotational balance, a far superior approach to the loose-fitting bolts and dowels found on stamped steel covers. The 153-tooth integrated ring gear and internal balancing make this a true bolt-on solution for 6-bolt LS crankshaft applications.
This kit includes Tilton's 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing with height preset at the factory for C6 Corvette applications. The HRB connects directly to the OEM clutch line, eliminating the fitment complications and hydraulic issues common with other aftermarket clutch upgrades. Compatible with C6 Corvette LS engines using 6-bolt crankshaft flanges and 26-spline transmissions including TREMEC T56 and TKO. Made in the USA.
