Description
When your Ford small block makes serious power, the factory clutch becomes the weak link. The Tilton ST-246 applies nearly 50 years of championship-winning racing clutch experience to the high-performance street market. Unlike many performance clutches that are simply OEM-type stamped steel pressure plates with a floater added, the ST-246 was engineered from the ground up as a true performance twin-disc clutch.
The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology from Tilton's OT-Series racing clutches, delivering higher strength, stiffness, and better dynamic balance than stamped steel designs. The high-mass main pressure plate and floater plate are machined from the same proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing high heat capacity and resistance to warpage. Heavy-duty straps attach the plates to the cover, minimizing noise and delivering a clean clutch release.
This kit features sprung-hub organic discs that dampen engine vibrations, reduce gearbox noise, and provide smooth engagement for street use while holding 850 lb-ft of torque. The floater plate is twice the thickness of most competing twin-disc clutches, which allows for the sprung hub design, eliminates gear clatter, and provides significantly better heat dissipation. The billet chromoly steel flywheel features a precision register that locates the clutch for optimal assembly balance, versus the loose-fitting bolts and dowels used with stamped steel clutches.
Designed for Ford 289/302/351W and 351C engines with 6-bolt crankshafts. Note: TREMEC transmission models 11010, 11011, and 16884 require the guide tube to be trimmed 0.5" to prevent disc interference. Magnum XL kits require MD-900-2505-A hose and fitting. Pilot and throwout bearings not included.
