Description
When your Ford small block is pushing serious power, a single-disc clutch becomes the weak link. The Tilton ST-246 solves this problem with true twin-disc engineering - not a stamped steel pressure plate with an add-on floater. This solid-hub cerametallic version holds 1,250 lb-ft of torque while maintaining precise engagement characteristics that work on both street and strip.
Since 1972, Tilton Engineering has been the leading supplier of small-diameter racing clutches, winning championships in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, SCCA, Formula Drift, and SCORE. The ST-246 applies this motorsports DNA to the street market with several engineering advantages over typical performance clutches. The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover delivers high strength, stiffness, and better balance than OE-type stamped steel covers. The high-mass main pressure plate and floater plate are machined from proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing high heat capacity and resisting warpage. Heavy-duty straps attach the plates to the cover to minimize noise and provide clean clutch release.
The floater plate design delivers tangible benefits: the extra-thick construction allows for solid-hub cerametallic discs rated at 1,250 lb-ft, eliminates gear clatter, and provides superior heat dissipation compared to thin floaters used elsewhere. The billet chromoly flywheel features a precision register that properly locates the clutch assembly for optimal balance - a far superior approach to the loose-fitting bolts and dowels found on stamped steel setups.
This Ford 157-tooth, 50oz externally balanced assembly fits Ford 289/302/351W & C engines with 8-bolt cranks and 26-spline transmissions. Compatible with most OEM release bearings. Note: TREMEC transmission models 11010, 11011, & 16884 require the guide tube to be trimmed 0.5" to prevent disc interference. Magnum XL applications require MD-900-2505-A hydraulic kit with hose and fitting. Pilot bearing and throwout bearing not included. Made in the USA.
