Description
When your Gen 5 Camaro SS or Z28 is pushing serious power, the factory single-disc clutch becomes the weakest link. The Tilton ST-246 twin-disc clutch and flywheel assembly delivers 1250 lb-ft of holding power for high-torque street/strip applications - built from the ground up as a true performance twin-disc clutch, not an OEM-type stamped steel pressure plate with a floater tacked on.
The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology from Tilton's championship-winning OT-Series racing clutches, delivering higher strength, stiffness, and better dynamic balance than stamped steel alternatives. Heavy-duty straps attach the high-mass pressure plate and floater plate to the cover, minimizing noise and providing clean clutch release. The floater plate is twice the thickness of most competitors - this extra mass eliminates the gear rattle that plagues thin-floater designs while dramatically improving heat dissipation under hard use.
The solid-hub cerametallic discs provide positive, precise engagement characteristics ideal for street/strip duty. Unlike sprung-hub organic discs (rated at 850 lb-ft), the solid-hub ceramic configuration handles the higher clamping loads required for 1250 lb-ft capacity. The billet chromoly flywheel features an integrated 153-tooth ring gear with 8-bolt crankshaft mounting and internal balance. A precision register locates the clutch for optimal rotational balance - no loose-fitting bolts or dowels like stamped steel clutch assemblies.
This Gen 5 Camaro application includes a Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing with height preset at the factory. The HRB connects directly to your OEM clutch line, eliminating the complexity of aftermarket hydraulic conversions. Designed for 26-spline, 1-1/8" input shaft transmissions. Since 1972, Tilton Engineering has been the leading supplier of small-diameter racing clutches, winning championships in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, SCCA, Formula Drift, and SCORE. Made in the USA.
