Description
High-horsepower LS builds demand a clutch that won't slip, chatter, or fail under load. The Tilton ST-246 twin-disc clutch and flywheel assembly delivers 850 lb-ft of holding power while maintaining the smooth engagement characteristics you need for daily street duty. Unlike the stamped steel "performance" clutches flooding the market, the ST-246 was engineered from the ground up as a true twin-disc clutch—not an OEM pressure plate with a floater bolted on as an afterthought.
The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology directly from Tilton's championship-winning OT-Series racing clutches used in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, and Formula Drift. This design delivers superior strength, stiffness, and dynamic balance compared to stamped steel alternatives. The high-mass main pressure plate and floater plate are machined from proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing exceptional heat capacity and warpage resistance. The floater plate is twice the thickness of most competitor twin-disc clutches—this extra mass allows for the sprung hub design while eliminating gear chatter and improving heat dissipation during hard use.
The sprung-hub organic discs dampen engine vibrations and reduce transmission noise, delivering engagement characteristics you can live with in traffic. The included billet chromoly flywheel features a precision register that locates the clutch for optimal balance—a significant improvement over the loose-fitting bolts and dowels found on stamped steel clutch assemblies. Internal balance matches LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6, and LS7 engines with 6-bolt crankshaft flanges.
This kit works with most OEM hydraulic release bearings. C6 Corvette and Gen5 Camaro applications require a Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing (sold separately for this kit). Pilot bearing and throwout bearing are not included. Designed for TREMEC T-56 Magnum and TKO transmissions with 26-spline, 1-1/8-inch input shafts.
