Unlike stamped steel "performance clutches" with a floater plate added as an afterthought, the ST-246 was designed from the ground up as a true twin disc clutch - sharing technology directly from Tilton's championship-winning OT-Series racing clutches used in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, and Formula Drift.
The engineering advantage starts with the precision-machined aluminum clutch cover, delivering higher strength, stiffness, and better dynamic balance than OE-type stamped steel designs. The high-mass main pressure plate and floater plate are machined from the same proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing exceptional heat capacity and warp resistance under hard use. That floater plate runs twice the thickness of competing twin disc designs - this extra mass enables the sprung-hub disc configuration that dampens engine vibrations, eliminates gear rattle, and delivers smooth engagement you can actually live with in traffic.
The billet chromoly steel flywheel features a precision register that locates the clutch assembly for optimal balance - a significant upgrade over the loose-fitting bolts and dowels used on stamped steel setups. The 168-tooth ring gear and 8-bolt crankshaft pattern provide direct fitment for 2010-2015 Camaro SS and Z/28 applications. The organic sprung-hub discs with 26-spline x 1-1/8 in. hubs are compatible with TREMEC T-56, TKO, and TKX transmissions.
This kit includes the Tilton 6000 Series hydraulic release bearing, factory preset to the correct height for plug-and-play installation. The HRB connects directly to OEM clutch lines on Gen 5 Camaro applications, eliminating the need for mechanical linkages, pivot balls, or external slave cylinders.
