    Description

    When your classic GM muscle car is making north of 400 horsepower and that antiquated 4-speed is holding you back, the TREMEC TKX delivers the overdrive upgrade you need. Unlike transmissions repurposed from OEM applications, the TKX was designed, tested, and built from the ground up specifically for the aftermarket. The result is a purpose-built 5-speed that combines universal packaging with the durability and shift quality that high-horsepower restomods demand.

    The engineering focus shows in every component. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque-carrying capacity. Sintered carbon/bronze hybrid triple-cone synchronizers deliver smooth, precise shifts even at 7,500 RPM. The gear layout is optimized to minimize noise, vibration, and harshness while oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all gear positions maximize durability. A ribbed three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while keeping weight down to just 99 lbs dry.

    The compact end-loaded case design clears most GM A-body transmission tunnels without cutting - Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro applications typically bolt right in. Three shifter positions offer flexibility for factory console alignment, and the low-profile shifter plate keeps everything tight. This close-ratio 2.87:1 first gear with 0.81:1 overdrive fifth provides strong acceleration while dropping highway RPM for comfortable cruising and improved fuel efficiency.

    Bolts directly to existing GM Muncie bellhousings or Quicktime SFI-approved bellhousings. The GM-pattern input features a 0.590 in. pilot tip and 1.375 in. OD throwout bearing guide tube. Gaskets at all mating surfaces eliminate fluid leaks and simplify installation. MDL backs every transmission with an extended warranty and lifetime technical support.
