This transmission was designed from the ground up specifically for the aftermarket - not adapted from an OE application - with classic muscle car tunnels in mind. The end-loaded case design provides superior tunnel clearance without the floor cutting that other swaps require, making it a true drop-in solution for GM A-bodies like the Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro.
This wide-ratio version pairs a deep 3.27 first gear for aggressive launches with a 0.72 overdrive fifth that drops highway RPM significantly - the ideal combination for street performance builds where you want strong acceleration off the line without sacrificing cruising comfort. All gears and shafts are machined from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) for increased torque carrying capacity, and tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts reduce noise while improving durability. The hybrid triple cone synchronizers - combining sintered carbon and bronze materials with a non-leading tooth profile - deliver smooth, positive shifts even at high RPM.
The TKX bolts directly to GM 3-speed and 4-speed Muncie/Richmond bellhousings, using the same mounting points as your factory transmission. The 26-spline input shaft accepts GM-pattern clutch discs, while the beefy 31-spline output shaft handles the transmission's full 600 lb-ft rating. A 0.590-inch pilot tip and 1.375-inch OD throwout bearing guide tube maintain GM compatibility throughout the drivetrain.
Every TKX ships with the high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter, reverse light switch (left side), and cruise control safety switch provision (right side). Recommended fluid is Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF - capacity is 2.7 quarts.
