Description
Hunting junkyard cores and paying for questionable "Stage 6" rebuilds ends here. The TREMEC Magnum-F leverages proven TR-6060 architecture to deliver a brand-new, factory-quality 6-speed that bolts directly into 1998-2002 LS1-powered Camaros and Firebirds. Built from 100% new OEM-grade components, the Magnum-F eliminates the shrinking parts supply and reliability concerns that plague aging T56 transmissions while delivering substantially improved performance.
Inside, the Magnum-F features the same durable componentry found in today's hardest-hitting OEM muscle cars. Compared to the original T56, the Magnum-F boasts increased face width on all gears, a robust combination of double and triple cone synchronizers for smooth high-RPM shifts, enhanced webbing in the main case for rigidity, and provisions for a cooler circuit on demanding applications. The 4616 chromoly gears and one-piece countershaft handle 700 lb-ft of torque without breaking a sweat - no modifications required.
The Magnum-F's shifter location solves the fitment puzzle that has frustrated F-body and sport compact builders for years. Where the standard Magnum positions the shifter too far forward and the Magnum XL places it too far back, the Magnum-F's 29.4-inch location from the bellhousing face hits the factory-correct spot for fourth-gen F-bodies. This same position makes the Magnum-F ideal for third-gen F-bodies, LT1-powered fourth-gens, LS-swapped late models, and sport compact applications like A80 Supras and FD RX-7s that previously relied on factory F-body T56 units for their shifter placement.
The included isolator-type shifter - the same design found on the Magnum XL - reduces in-cabin noise and vibration while delivering the precise, communicative shift feel that defines the Magnum lineup. Installation requires a 31-spline slip yoke (replacing the factory 27-spline) and driveshaft length adjustment. The transmission accepts the factory 1998-2002 Camaro/Firebird internal slave cylinder for a straightforward hydraulic clutch setup. Fluid capacity is 4 quarts; TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron III, or Mobil 1 ATF recommended.
