    Description

    When your Ford build demands a modern five-speed but the factory console or shifter boot location dictates exactly where the stick needs to fall, this MDL-modified TREMEC TKX delivers. Standard TKX shifter locations work for many builds, but classic Fords often require precise positioning to clear consoles, maintain ergonomics, or match factory shifter boot cutouts. MDL solves this with a custom 2" left side mount front socket configuration with your choice of a straight-up or 0.5" forward offset stub.

    The engineering foundation is TREMEC's TKX platform - built from the ground up as an aftermarket-specific transmission rather than adapted from OE production. The end-loading case design provides a slimmer profile than front-loading predecessors, clearing most factory transmission tunnels without cutting or modification. A ribbed three-piece aluminum housing (main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension) delivers outstanding structural stiffness while keeping dry weight at just 99 lbs.

    Inside, all gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel for maximum torque capacity. The sintered carbon/bronze hybrid triple-cone synchronizers with non-leading tooth profile enable confident 7,500 RPM shifts with smooth engagement. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise, while caged needle bearings at all gear positions improve durability. The close-ratio gear set (2.87 first, 0.68 overdrive) suits performance applications where you want tight spacing through the gears and deep overdrive for highway cruising.

    This Ford-pattern TKX features a 26-spline input shaft compatible with Ford Toploader-style bellhousings and requires a 26-spline clutch disc. The 31-spline output shaft accepts Ford C6-style slip yokes. Both mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive and two-wire analog electronic speedometer provisions are built in. Fluid specification calls for Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, GM Synchromesh, or TREMEC HP-MTF with a 2.7-quart capacity. This exact shifter configuration is an MDL exclusive - you will not find it in TREMEC's standard catalog.
