    Description

    When your GM A-body, muscle car, or console-equipped build demands the shifter in a specific location, the factory TKX shifter position rarely cooperates. This MDL-modified front shift TREMEC TKX solves that problem with a precisely engineered shift stub relocation that puts the lever exactly where your console or tunnel opening needs it - without cutting floors or fabricating custom linkages.

    This exclusive MDL modification moves the shift stub to the front position with a 1" left and 2.6" or 2.95" forward offset from the transmission centerline. The front shift location places the shifter 9.73-10.08" from the bellhousing face, and the narrow shift body is specifically designed to clear factory shifter holes without floor modifications. This is the kind of precise positioning that console car builders need but cannot get from a stock TREMEC catalog transmission.

    The close-ratio gear set (2.87 first, 1.89 second, 1.28 third, 1.00 fourth, 0.68 fifth) delivers performance-oriented spacing that keeps you in the powerband through every shift. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings enable smooth, confident shifts up to 7,500 RPM, while the slimline end-loading case design provides superior tunnel clearance compared to older TKO transmissions. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing delivers structural stiffness while keeping weight at approximately 99 lbs dry.

    Both mechanical 7-tooth Ford-style speedometer cable drive and a built-in two-wire analog electronic speedometer sensor are included, covering vintage and modern instrumentation setups. The transmission requires Dexron III ATF (2.7-quart capacity) and bolts directly to any GM 3 or 4-speed Muncie bellhousing pattern. This modification is performed exclusively by MDL in Caldwell, Idaho and is not available through TREMEC's standard catalog.
