    Description

    When your build demands the shifter lever in a specific cockpit location, the standard TKX shifter positions often fall short. MDL solves this with an exclusive front-shift modification that moves the lever forward where you need it - ideal for bench-seat cars, tight interiors, or builds where console placement is critical. This custom configuration provides 1" of left offset plus your choice of 2.6" or 2.95" forward positioning to dial in the perfect shift location for your application.

    The foundation is TREMEC's proven TKX platform with 600 lb-ft torque capacity and wide-ratio gearing (3.27 first, 0.72 overdrive) that delivers strong launches and highway-friendly cruising RPMs. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon rings enable smooth, fast shifts at engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM with shift points at 7,500 RPM - a significant upgrade over brass-ring designs that feel balky above 6,000 RPM. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque-carrying capacity.

    The slimline end-loading case design provides superior tunnel clearance, fitting GM A-bodies like Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro without floor modifications. The narrow front-shift body clears standard shifter holes, eliminating the cutting and fabrication headaches that plague other 5-speed conversions. A ribbed, 3-piece aluminum housing delivers structural stiffness while gaskets at all flanges simplify installation and eliminate fluid leaks.

    This GM-pattern TKX bolts directly to Muncie and Richmond bellhousings with a 26-spline input shaft and 31-spline output shaft. Both mechanical speedometer drive and analog electric speedometer output are built in. Recommended lubricant is Dexron-III ATF. This is an MDL-exclusive modification not available through TREMEC.
