Description
When shifter placement becomes the bottleneck in your road race build, this MDL-modified TREMEC TKX eliminates the guesswork. Standard TKX transmissions position the shifter where TREMEC designed it - not necessarily where your cockpit ergonomics demand it. This exclusive modification relocates the shift lever forward and left, putting it exactly where a driver needs it during high-RPM competition shifts without requiring tunnel surgery.
The custom shift stub provides 1 inch of left offset and 2.6" to 2.95" of forward positioning, bringing the shifter up through the floor in a location that works for road racing applications. The narrow shift body profile clears standard shifter holes, eliminating the fabrication work that typically accompanies shifter relocation in classic GM builds. The close ratio gear set (2.87/1.89/1.28/1.00/0.81) keeps engine speed in the powerband between shifts - critical when every tenth matters on track.
The TKX platform delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity through a 26-spline input shaft, with multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid carbon/bronze synchronizer rings engineered for smooth shifts at engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM. The slimline, end-loading case design provides significantly better tunnel clearance than the older TKO series, fitting into the tight confines of classic GM tunnels without floor modifications. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing delivers structural stiffness while keeping weight at approximately 99 lbs dry.
This front shift modification is not available through TREMEC - it is an MDL exclusive engineered specifically for builders who need precise shifter positioning in competition and road race applications. Compatible with GM Muncie 4-speed bellhousing bolt patterns, the 31-spline output accepts standard Ford C6-style slip yokes. Requires ATF Dexron III fluid, with provisions for both mechanical and electronic speedometer output.
