Description
Shifter placement is one of the biggest headaches in a classic GM 5-speed swap. Factory console cutouts, bench seat builds, and tight tunnels all conspire to put the shifter exactly where you don't want it. This MDL Modified TREMEC TKX solves that problem with a custom side shifter stub that repositions the shift lever 1" to the left, straight up or .5" forward - putting your hand right where it needs to be without hacking up your floor.
The narrow shift body is engineered to clear existing shifter openings, eliminating the floor cutting that plagues so many swaps. You get precise shifter placement without the bodywork drama. This is an MDL exclusive modification not available through TREMEC or any other distributor.
Underneath the custom shifter work sits TREMEC's most advanced 5-speed platform. The TKX handles 600 lb-ft of torque and shifts cleanly at up to 7,500 RPM thanks to multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid sintered bronze/carbon synchronizer rings. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel with wide gear widths for maximum durability. The ribbed 3-piece aluminum housing delivers outstanding structural stiffness while the end-loading design creates the slimmest 5-speed case on the market - critical for classic GM tunnel fitment.
The wide ratio gear set with 3.27 first gear provides strong launches, while the 0.72 overdrive fifth drops highway RPM for better fuel economy and reduced engine wear. Compatible with GM Muncie/Richmond bellhousing bolt pattern applications. Both mechanical and analog electric speedometer outputs are built in, along with reverse light and cruise control safety switches.
