Description
The factory TKX shifter location often lands in awkward spots in classic muscle cars, forcing floor modifications or compromised ergonomics. MDL solves this with a custom 1" or 1.5" backward offset shift stub that repositions the shifter lever exactly where your hand naturally falls. The narrow shift body design clears standard shifter openings without cutting the floor -- taking all the worry and hassle out of shifter placement.
Built on TREMEC's proven TKX platform, this transmission delivers close ratio gearing (3.27, 1.98, 1.34, 1.00, 0.72 overdrive) designed to keep you in the powerband through technical sections on the road course while the 0.72 overdrive provides comfortable highway cruising capability. The TKX is rated for 600 ft-lb of torque and features enhanced multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings that handle aggressive 8,000 RPM engine speeds with smooth, fast shifts at 7,500 RPM.
The slimline end-loading case design provides superior tunnel clearance compared to the older TKO, fitting GM A-bodies like Chevelles, GTOs, Camaros, and Novas without tunnel modifications in most applications. The ribbed 3-piece aluminum housing delivers outstanding structural stiffness, while oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all positions ensure durability under hard use. The 26-spline input shaft and 31-spline output shaft provide bulletproof reliability for high-performance builds.
This transmission bolts directly to standard GM Muncie/Richmond bellhousing patterns. Both mechanical and analog electric speedometer outputs are included. Recommended fluid is ATF Dexron III with a 2.7-quart capacity. This MDL-exclusive modification is not available through TREMEC.
