Stop fighting your shifter placement. This MDL Exclusive modification solves the persistent problem of getting your shift lever exactly where you need it - without hacking up your floor. The custom short body front shifter with 1" or 1.5" backward offset shift stub relocates your shifter to the optimal driving position, while the narrow shift body clears the factory shifter hole without tunnel modifications. This is the road race setup TREMEC does not offer.
Built on the proven TREMEC TKX platform, this close ratio 5-speed delivers 600 ft-lbs of torque capacity and can be safely shifted at 7,500 RPM thanks to advanced multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings. The close ratio gear set (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.81 overdrive) keeps you in the powerband through aggressive driving, whether you are carving canyons or running hot laps. The 0.81 overdrive provides a milder highway cruise than deeper overdrive options while maintaining responsive throttle response when you need to downshift.
TREMEC designed the TKX case specifically to fit within narrow tunnel confines like the '68-'72 Chevelle. The slimline end-loading case design provides maximum tunnel clearance while the ribbed three-piece aluminum housing delivers outstanding structural stiffness. Both mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive and two-wire analog electric speedometer output are built in.
The 26-spline input shaft (1-1/8-inch diameter) and 31-spline output shaft provide the strength required for serious horsepower applications. Bolts directly to GM Muncie/Richmond 3-speed and 4-speed bellhousing patterns. Use TREMEC High Performance Manual Transmission Fluid, Dexron-III, or equivalent ATF - fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts.
