Description
Getting a Ford Flathead V8 to work reliably with a modern 5 or 6-speed transmission requires more than generic clutch components. This MDL Superior clutch set delivers the correct geometry, bolt pattern, and spline count to mate classic Flathead power with today's TREMEC and other 26-spline transmissions. The 10" long pattern pressure plate provides the 3-1/8" bolt circle required for proper Flathead flywheel fitment, while the quick-release disc design integrates seamlessly with MDL's Flathead adapter systems.
Every clutch disc in the Superior line is hand-built at MDL's Caldwell, Idaho facility. Organic friction material on both flywheel and pressure plate sides delivers the smooth, progressive engagement street-driven Flatheads demand--no grabbing or chattering at low speeds. The sprung hub absorbs drivetrain shock loads and helps eliminate the gear rattle that plagues stiff-hub designs. With a 250 ft-lb torque capacity, this clutch handles spirited street driving without the aggressive pedal feel of race-compound facings.
The diaphragm-style pressure plate replaces the original three-finger design with consistent clamping force and lighter pedal effort. Each disc is checked and double-checked for runout, balance, and dimensional accuracy before shipping--MDL's in-house manufacturing means complete control over tolerances and quality. The kit includes a Flathead-specific pilot bearing and the correct 0.670" tip alignment tool for straightforward installation.
This clutch set is designed for hydraulic release systems and does not include a throwout bearing. Pair with MDL's Flathead conversion bellhousing and hydraulic clutch components for a complete drivetrain solution. All components are manufactured in the United States and backed by MDL's 1-year free-from-defect warranty.
