Description
Stock-style organic clutches fall apart under the torque demands of a modified Ford Y-Block. The Superior Kevlar/Kevlar clutch kit solves that durability problem with dual Kevlar friction surfaces engineered for the unique characteristics of these classic V8s. Ford introduced the Y-Block in 1954 as a replacement for the flathead V8, with displacements ranging from 239 to 312 cubic inches through 1964. Whether you're running a warmed-over 292 in a Thunderbird or a built 312 in a period Ford pickup, this clutch delivers the holding power and longevity these engines deserve.
The engineering advantage of Kevlar facing material is its thermal behavior: unlike organic compounds that lose grip as they heat up, Kevlar's coefficient of friction actually increases with elevated temperature. This means torque capacity improves during hard use rather than fading - critical for performance street driving, open track events, and repeated launches. The material also resists burning when slipped excessively, so an aggressive start won't cause permanent damage the way it would with organic facings.
The 3-3/8" diaphragm pressure plate provides consistent clamping force across the full 11" friction surface. Diaphragm-style plates deliver more linear pedal feel than Long-style plates and maintain clamping pressure better as the disc wears. The 26-spline 1-1/8" hub mates with modern transmission input shafts, making this kit ideal for TREMEC swaps into vintage Y-Block-powered vehicles.
