    Description

    When your Ford truck build demands a modern 5-speed but needs the shifter positioned where it belongs, this MDL-modified TKX delivers what TREMEC cannot. Standard TKX transmissions position the shifter too far rearward for proper truck ergonomics. Our solution involves extensive internal modifications - machining, updating, and integrating new components to bring the shifter stub forward to the OE position while incorporating a taller shifter housing specifically engineered for truck cab configurations.

    This is not a bolt-on shifter conversion. Every unit undergoes hours of precision hand-modification at our Caldwell, Idaho facility, carefully machining and rebuilding the transmission case to accommodate the repositioned shifter mechanism. The result is an integral part of the transmission that maintains the TKX's superior high-RPM shiftability via multi-cone synchronizers and sintered carbon/bronze hybrid synchronizer rings with a non-leading tooth profile, while delivering proper shifter placement for truck cockpits.

    Built on TREMEC's latest TKX platform, this transmission features a ribbed 3-piece aluminum housing for structural stiffness and the slimmest 5-speed case on the market for improved tunnel clearance. All gears and shafts are manufactured from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) for increased torque capacity. The robust internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks, tapered roller bearings on input, output, and countershafts, and caged needle bearings on the mainshaft deliver reduced noise and extended service life. The single-piece countershaft and rear mainshaft support bushing - relocated closer to the gearbox - provide superior drivetrain rigidity.

    This transmission bolts to Ford Wide Pattern bellhousings with a 10-spline input requiring a matching clutch disc. Includes Ford mechanical 7-tooth speedometer drive gear, 17-tooth reluctor wheel, and OSS 2-wire analog speedometer sensor for modern EFI integration. Recommended lubricants: Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Fluid capacity: 2.7 quarts.
