When your Ford truck build demands a TKX with the shifter in the straight-up OE position, this MDL exclusive modification delivers exactly that. Standard TREMEC TKX shifter locations work great for many applications, but some builds -- particularly trucks with floor-mounted shifters or specific console clearances -- need the stub positioned differently. MDL solves this problem through careful machining and component integration that brings the shifter stub straight up with no offset, all while maintaining the TKX's legendary durability and shift quality.
The front mount tall body configuration provides additional shifter height, making this transmission ideal for truck installations where the standard shifter housing sits too low. MDL's engineering team hand-prepares each transmission, ensuring precise shifter positioning and flawless operation before it ships. This level of customization simply isn't available from TREMEC's standard catalog.
Built on TREMEC's proven TKX platform, this transmission delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity with engine speeds capable of 8,000 RPM and shifts at 7,500 RPM. The close-ratio gear set features a strong 2.87:1 first gear for confident launches and a deep 0.68:1 overdrive that drops highway RPM for relaxed cruising and improved fuel economy. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings deliver superior shift quality at high RPM, while the ribbed 3-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness with reduced NVH. Tapered roller bearings on input, output, and countershafts combined with caged needle bearings on the mainshaft ensure long-term durability.
This Ford-pattern TKX requires a Ford Wide Pattern bellhousing and 26-spline clutch disc. The 0.670-inch pilot tip fits standard Ford applications. Both mechanical (7-tooth cable drive) and electronic (OSS two-wire analog sensor) speedometer outputs are included. Fill with 2.7 quarts of Dexron-III ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
