Description
Classic Ford interiors and aftermarket consoles demand precise shifter placement - and the stock TREMEC shifter locations don't always cooperate. This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX solves that problem with an exclusive 2" left side mounted front shifter, paired with interchangeable 1" or 1.5" forward offset shift stubs. This configuration gives builders the flexibility to dial in exact shifter placement for custom consoles, aftermarket shifters, or specific ergonomic requirements - a modification not available through TREMEC or other distributors.
The TKX was designed from the ground up specifically for the aftermarket, not adapted from OEM applications. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings deliver superior shift quality even at high RPMs, while the internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks provides precise, positive engagement. All gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel, with oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all gear positions optimizing durability under high-torque loads.
The close-ratio gear set (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.68) is purpose-built for high-performance applications, providing tight ratio spacing through the gears with a deep 0.68 overdrive for reduced highway RPM. The compact end-loaded case design tucks into tight transmission tunnels, and the slimline profile reduces or eliminates the floor modifications required by older TKO transmissions.
This transmission accepts Dexron III ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Both mechanical speedometer cable drive and two-wire analog electronic speedometer outputs are included.
