Description
When track time demands maximum shifter precision and your Ford build needs the most aggressive shift position possible, this MDL-modified TKX delivers road race-ready performance in an exclusive configuration you cannot buy from TREMEC. The tall body shifter mounts in the furthest forward position on the case with zero offset on the shift stub, placing the shift lever exactly where a road racer needs it during hard cornering and aggressive downshifts.
The TKX platform represents TREMEC's ground-up redesign of the five-speed manual for the aftermarket. Its end-loading three-piece aluminum case reduces overall height and width compared to the TKO it replaces, eliminating tunnel modifications in many classic applications while increasing structural rigidity. The close-ratio gear set opens with a 2.87 first gear to keep the engine in its powerband through technical sections, while the 0.68 overdrive delivers highway cruising capability for track day drives. Multi-cone synchronizers with sintered carbon/bronze hybrid rings and double-lined carbon-fiber facings enable clean, positive shifts at 7,500 RPM - a major improvement over older five-speeds.
TREMEC engineered the TKX with special gate chamfers and ball detents on all three shift rails for improved shift quality with reduced notchiness. All gears and shafts are manufactured from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel with oversized gear widths for maximum durability. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts reduce noise while caged needle bearings support all gear positions. The internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks keeps all linkage lubricated and protected.
This Ford-pattern TKX bolts directly to Toploader-style bellhousings and shares crossmember mounting points with TKO transmissions for straightforward swaps. The 31-spline output shaft accepts Ford C6-style slip yokes with 1310, 1330, or 1350 U-joints. Both mechanical and electronic speedometer outputs are built in. Short input shaft kits are available separately for applications using original four-speed bellhousings.
