Description
Traditional GM side-shift TKX conversions force you to choose between perfect shifter placement and major floor modifications. This MDL exclusive solves that problem with a custom-engineered front socket featuring both 1" or 1.5" forward offset positions. The narrow shift body design eliminates the need for tunnel cutting while the dual offset options let you dial in exactly where the lever lands in your cockpit.
Built to handle 600 ft-lb of torque, this close-ratio TKX delivers superior shiftability at high RPM through multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered bronze and carbon. The ribbed, three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all positions ensure long-term durability. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel for maximum torque-carrying capacity.
TREMEC designed the TKX case specifically to fit within the narrow and short confines of '68–'72 Chevelle tunnels, making it an ideal upgrade path for GM A-body applications. At 99 pounds dry weight with a 2.7-quart fluid capacity, this transmission delivers modern performance in a package that respects vintage space constraints. The GM Muncie bellhousing bolt pattern means direct compatibility with your existing four-speed bellhousing.
