Description
When your road race build demands precise shifter placement and bulletproof reliability, this MDL-modified TKX delivers both. The close ratio 0.81 fifth gear keeps engine speed in the power band during high-speed sections where a deeper overdrive would bog - exactly what autocross, road course, and spirited canyon driving demand. TREMEC designed the TKX case specifically to fit within the narrow confines of classic GM A-body tunnels, and MDL's custom forward offset shifter stubs solve the final piece: getting your shifter exactly where it needs to be for factory console integration.
The 1.0" and 1.5" forward offset options position your shifter precisely for various GM applications without floor modifications. With a shift location offset of 1.75"-2.25" from stock positioning, you get console-compatible placement while retaining all the TKX's performance advantages. TREMEC's enhanced gear sizes and revised double-lined carbon-fiber synchronizer package can be safely shifted at 7,500 RPM, with special chamfers improving shift quality and a dedicated ball detent for each of the three internal rails.
Built from 100% brand-new OEM-quality components, this transmission features special grade ASTM 4615 steel gears and shafts that exceed the durability of the previous TKO series. Oversized gear widths, gaskets at all flanges, and caged needle bearings in all gear positions ensure long-term reliability under demanding track conditions. The internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks provides the robust, positive engagement serious drivers expect. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts of Dexron III ATF, GM Synchromesh, or TREMEC HP-MTF for simplified maintenance.
This road race transmission bolts directly to GM 3 and 4-speed Muncie/Richmond bellhousing patterns with no adapter required. Includes provisions for reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch. The billet aluminum side shift assembly with forward offset stubs is an MDL-exclusive modification - not available through TREMEC - designed for enthusiasts who refuse to compromise on shifter placement or transmission performance.
