Description
Road race applications demand precise shifter placement--and that's exactly what this MDL-modified TREMEC TKX delivers. Starting with the TCET17722 close-ratio 5-speed, Modern Driveline configures this transmission with front shift positioning and a custom offset shifter stub that moves the shifter arm 1.65" or 2.15" backward. The result is exact shifter placement for console-equipped GM muscle cars where the factory console position is non-negotiable.
The TKX platform represents TREMEC's ground-up aftermarket design, built to handle 600 lb-ft of torque while shifting cleanly at 7,500 RPM. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel, while sintered bronze/carbon hybrid triple-cone synchronizers with non-leading tooth profiles deliver smooth, high-RPM engagement. The robust internal three-rail shift system uses steel shift forks throughout, and caged needle bearings in all gear positions reduce end play and extend service life.
The close-ratio gear stack (2.87 first through 0.81 overdrive) keeps your engine in the meat of the powerband during spirited driving while still providing reasonable highway cruising RPMs. The slim end-loading case design--featuring a ribbed three-piece aluminum housing with main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension--clears most GM A-body tunnels (Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, Camaro) without cutting. This GM-pattern TKX bolts directly to standard GM Muncie/Richmond 3-speed and 4-speed bellhousings using a 26-spline input that requires a matching clutch disc.
Factory provisions include both mechanical (7-tooth) and electronic speedometer outputs, a built-in reverse light switch, and cruise control safety switch. Uses Dexron III ATF or TREMEC HP-MTF fluid with a 2.7-quart capacity.
