    Description

    When your build demands precise shifter placement that stock configurations can't deliver, MDL's exclusive road race TKX solves the problem. This GM-pattern five-speed features a side shifter with front socket positioning and a 1.65" to 2.15" backward offset shift stub - a modification unavailable from TREMEC or any other distributor. Whether you're working around a roll cage, custom interior, or specific console requirements in your Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, or other GM A-body, this transmission puts the shift lever exactly where you need it.

    The TREMEC TKX platform delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity in a slimline package designed specifically for classic muscle car tunnels. The close-ratio gear stack (2.87 first, 0.81 overdrive) keeps engine RPM in the powerband during spirited driving while still providing usable highway cruising capability. Sintered carbon/bronze hybrid multi-cone synchronizers enable crisp, confident shifts at engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM with actual shift capability rated at 7,500 RPM - a massive improvement over earlier five-speed designs that became notchy at high RPM.

    The end-loading case architecture reduces the transmission's overall envelope compared to previous TKO units, fitting '68-'72 Chevelles and '64-'67 GM A-bodies without tunnel surgery. All gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel for maximum durability. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts reduce noise and improve longevity, while caged needle bearings on the main shaft handle radial loads. Unlike earlier transmissions that relied on gasket sealer, the TKX uses proper gaskets at all mating surfaces for leak-free operation.

    The 31-spline output shaft accepts Ford C6-style slip yokes for broad driveline compatibility. Both mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive and OSS two-wire analog electric speedometer sensor come standard. This transmission bolts directly to GM Muncie/Richmond-pattern bellhousings and features a 0.590" pilot tip with 1.375" OD throwout bearing guide tube. Recommended fluids include Dexron III ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, GM Synchromesh, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
