    Description

    When TREMEC's standard shifter positions don't work for your build, MDL delivers the solution. This road race-spec TKX features a custom side shifter configuration with a rear socket and 1" or 1.5" backward offset shift stub - a modification you simply cannot get through TREMEC. For competition cockpits where shifter placement directly impacts lap times, this exclusive configuration puts the stick exactly where your hand naturally falls during aggressive driving.

    The TCET17722 is TREMEC's close-ratio TKX built specifically for GM applications. The 2.87:1 first gear paired with tight intermediate ratios keeps high-output engines in their sweet spot during hard acceleration, while the 0.81 overdrive fifth provides efficient cruising between sessions. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque capacity, supported by caged needle bearings in all positions to reduce end play under repeated high-load shifts.

    Where earlier TKO transmissions suffered from notchy, balky shifts at high RPM, the TKX's multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze/carbon rings deliver smooth engagement even at 7,500 RPM shift points. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing provides structural stiffness while maintaining the slim profile that clears GM A-body tunnels - Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro applications typically require no floor modifications. Gaskets at all flanges eliminate the fluid leaks that plagued earlier designs.

    The 31-spline output shaft uses Ford C6-style slip yokes, giving you multiple driveline options for custom configurations. Built-in reverse light switch and cruise control safety switch simplify wiring. For lubrication, TREMEC recommends Dexron III ATF, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, or TREMEC HP-MTF with a 2.7-quart capacity. At just 99 lbs dry weight, the TKX delivers 600 lb-ft capacity without the mass penalty of larger six-speed units.
