    Description

    Road racing demands more than a stock shifter position can deliver. This MDL-exclusive TREMEC TKX configuration solves the ergonomic challenges that plague track-focused GM builds by repositioning the side shifter with a rear socket configuration and custom forward offset shift stub. The 1.65" or 2.15" inch forward offset places the shift knob exactly where serious drivers need it - eliminating the awkward reach and binding common with standard shifter locations on competition vehicles.

    The close-ratio gear set (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.81) delivers tighter spacing between gears - critical for maintaining momentum through technical sections where quick, precise shifts matter more than wide-ratio street cruising. With 600 lb-ft of torque capacity and the ability to handle engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM with safe shifts at 7,500 RPM, this transmission is built for the demands of road racing. All gears and shafts are made from special grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque carrying capacity, while multi-cone synchronizers with sintered bronze and carbon hybrid rings deliver smooth, confident shifts under high-RPM abuse.

    The TKX's end-loading design provides a slimmer case for superior tunnel clearance, increased case strength, and fewer seams compared to traditional topload transmissions. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while keeping dry weight at just 99 lbs. This GM-pattern TKX fits A-bodies without tunnel modifications - Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, Camaro, and many others.

    Bolts directly to GM 3 and 4-speed Muncie/Richmond bellhousings with .590 pilot tip and 1.375-inch OD throwout bearing guide tube. Both mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive and two-wire analog electronic speedometer outputs are built in. Requires Dexron III ATF (2.7 quart capacity) and pairs with 31-spline slip yokes for maximum driveline strength. This is an MDL exclusive - you will not find this road race configuration anywhere else.
