This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX solves that problem with a front socket side shifter setup delivering precise 1" left offset and 0.65" or 1.15" backward shift stub positioning - a configuration not available through standard TREMEC distribution channels. When your build requires exact shifter placement for a custom console, factory restoration, or race application, this is the transmission that gets it right.
The TKX platform was engineered from the ground up for the aftermarket, with 600 lb-ft torque capacity and 8,000 RPM engine speed capability. The enhanced multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid carbon/bronze rings enable confident shifts at 7,500 RPM while eliminating the notchy, high-effort feel of older 4-speed designs. The close-ratio 2.87 first gear provides aggressive launches while the deep 0.68 overdrive drops cruising RPMs for highway comfort and fuel economy.
TREMEC's three-piece ribbed aluminum housing delivers structural stiffness while the end-loading case design creates a slimmer profile than side-loading transmissions - critical for clearing tight transmission tunnels without cutting sheetmetal. Durability comes from oversized gear widths, gaskets at all flanges, and caged needle bearings in every gear position. The 26-spline input shaft and 31-spline output shaft handle serious power while maintaining broad clutch and driveshaft compatibility.
This GM-pattern TKX bolts directly to any Muncie or Richmond 4-speed bellhousing, making it a straightforward upgrade from factory 4-speeds in Camaros, Chevelles, Novas, and other GM muscle.
