    Description

This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX solves that problem with a professionally machined side shifter featuring front socket configuration and a precisely calibrated 1" or 1.5" backward offset shift stub. The tall turret body is specifically engineered for applications where standard turret heights create clearance issues--a common headache in truck and hot rod builds where the transmission tunnel, console, or seat placement demands flexibility the factory configuration cannot provide.

    At its core, this is TREMEC's proven TKX platform--the slimmest 5-speed on the market, purpose-built for aftermarket applications from the ground up. The close-ratio 2.87 first gear paired with 0.68 overdrive fifth delivers the ideal balance of acceleration and highway cruising efficiency. All gears and shafts are manufactured from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel, while oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all positions ensure long-term durability. Multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon rings deliver smooth, crisp shifts even at the 7,500 RPM ceiling.

    The end-loading case design isn't just about strength--though the ribbed three-piece aluminum housing delivers outstanding structural stiffness--it's about fitting where old-school 4-speeds used to live. The TKX slides into GM A-body tunnels (Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, Camaro) without modification and uses the same GM Muncie bellhousing bolt pattern your existing hardware already fits. Dual speedometer outputs (mechanical 7-tooth cable drive plus analog electronic sensor) give you options for factory-style instrumentation or modern gauge clusters.

    This configuration is not available through TREMEC--it's an MDL exclusive, modified at our Caldwell, Idaho facility. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts; TREMEC recommends HP-MTF, Dexron III, GM Synchromesh, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, or Pennzoil Synchromesh.
