    Description

    MDL's custom-modified TREMEC TKX 17805 solves the challenge of installing a modern 5-speed in GM vehicles requiring specific shift positioning and tight tunnel constraints. TREMEC designed the TKX case specifically to fit within the narrow and short confines of '68-'72 Chevelle tunnels, and MDL's modifications extend that fitment versatility with precision side-shift placement and backward offset capability ranging from 1" or 1.5" backward offset.

    This transmission delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity while handling engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM with safe shifting at 7,500 RPM. Enhanced gear sizes and revised double-lined, carbon-fiber synchronizer packages eliminate the stiff, notched shifter feel of older transmissions, while special chamfers improve shift quality with dedicated ball detents for each of the three rails. The transmission requires 2.7 quarts of Dexron III ATF, Amsoil ATF, or TREMEC HP-MTF for optimal performance.

    The ribbed, 3-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while the end-loading design creates a slimmer case envelope than top-load predecessors. Oversized gear widths, gaskets at all flanges, and caged needle bearings in all gear positions optimize durability. Tapered roller bearings on input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise while the single-piece countershaft increases torque carrying capacity.

    This unit bolts directly to standard GM Muncie 3-speed and 4-speed bellhousings and features a 26-spline input shaft requiring a 26-spline clutch disk. The GM .590-inch pilot tip and 1.375-inch OD throwout bearing guide tube maintain factory compatibility. MDL's custom modifications include the side-shift mechanism positioned for rear socket installation with a 1" or 1.5" backward offset capability, allowing precise shifter placement in challenging installations. Like all TREMEC aftermarket transmissions, this unit is manufactured from 100% brand-new OEM-quality components.
