    Description

    The stock TKX shifter position works for some builds, but not all. If your console, seat placement, or driving position demands the shifter sit farther back than TREMEC's factory rear socket allows, this MDL-modified TKX solves the problem. Our custom offset stubs reposition the shifter 1.65" or 2.15" backward of the standard rear socket location, putting the shift knob exactly where your hand naturally falls without compromising the transmission's legendary performance.

    This close-ratio TCET17805 variant features TREMEC's 2.87 first gear paired with a 0.68:1 overdrive - ideal for builds making serious torque that don't need an aggressive first gear launch. The tighter gear spacing keeps the engine in its powerband through each shift, while the deep overdrive drops cruising RPM for relaxed highway driving and improved fuel efficiency. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel, and wide gear widths increase both torque capacity and gear life.

    TREMEC designed the TKX from the ground up for aftermarket applications, with an end-loaded case that delivers greater strength in a more compact package than the TKO it replaced. The slimmed-down case clears GM A-body transmission tunnels without floor modifications - a direct response to years of builders hacking up Chevelles and GTOs to fit earlier five-speeds. A three-piece ribbed aluminum housing provides exceptional structural stiffness, while gaskets at all flanges eliminate the sealer mess and potential leaks of older designs.

    Inside, multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon rings enable clean, crisp shifts even at 7,500 RPM. The internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks routes through the included high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter, which isolates road noise while delivering the precise, mechanical feel that makes rowing through the gears satisfying. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershafts reduce noise, while caged needle bearings on the mainshaft optimize durability. Built-in reverse light and cruise control safety switches eliminate additional wiring hassles.
