Description
This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX solves the console alignment challenge that plagues most transmission swaps. The TKX's compact end-loaded design was engineered to fit classic muscle car tunnels without floor modifications, but factory shifter positioning rarely lines up with original consoles or aftermarket setups. MDL's precision-machined forward offset stub places the shift lever exactly 1.65" or 2.15" forward of stock -- positioning the shifter right where you need it for clean, professional installations.
The close-ratio gear set delivers a 2.87 first gear for strong launches while the 0.68 overdrive drops highway cruising RPMs significantly compared to direct drive. TREMEC's multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered bronze and carbon enable crisp, precise shifts even at 7,500 RPM -- a dramatic improvement over older five-speed designs. With 600 lb-ft of torque capacity and 8,000 RPM engine speed capability, this transmission handles serious horsepower from LS swaps, stroker small-blocks, and built big-blocks.
The three-piece aluminum housing -- main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension -- delivers outstanding structural stiffness while keeping weight at just 99 lbs dry. Gaskets at all flanges simplify installation and eliminate fluid leaks. All gears and shafts are manufactured from ASTM 4615 grade steel, with oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all positions for maximum durability. The internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks provides a robust, reliable shift mechanism.
Uses the same GM Muncie bellhousing bolt pattern as your original 3-speed and 4-speed transmissions, making this a true bolt-in upgrade for Chevelles, GTOs, Cutlasses, Novas, Camaros, and similar chassis. Compatible with Dexron-III ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, GM Synchromesh, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Fill capacity is 2.7 quarts.
