Description
The TREMEC TKX represents the next generation in 5-speed manual transmissions, purpose-built to handle today's power outputs while fitting where older transmissions could not. This GM-pattern TKX (TCET18083) features MDL's custom side-shift configuration with front socket mounting - positioning the shifter at 15.60"-16.10" from the bellhousing face with 1" left offset and .65" or 1.15" forward adjustment. This precision shifter placement solves console clearance issues that plague muscle car builds.
The revolutionary end-loading case design creates a slimmer profile while increasing structural strength and reducing case seams. The ribbed, 3-piece aluminum housing delivers outstanding structural stiffness through main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension components. All gears and shafts are machined from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel, while tapered roller bearings on input, output, and counter shafts improve performance and reduce noise. Caged needle bearings support all gear positions for extended durability.
This wide-ratio configuration delivers a 3.27 first gear for aggressive acceleration off the line and a 0.72 overdrive fifth that drops highway RPMs for comfortable cruising and improved fuel efficiency. The sintered carbon/bronze hybrid triple-cone synchronizers with non-leading tooth profile provide superior shift-ability at high RPMs. The robust internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks ensures crisp, precise gear changes.
Bolts directly to any GM 3- or 4-speed Muncie or Richmond bellhousing and accepts the GM .590" pilot bearing. The rear main-shaft support bushing is positioned closer to the gearbox for improved support. Built-in cruise control safety-switch location on the right side. All mating surfaces are sealed with gaskets for leak-free installation. Built from 100% brand-new OEM-quality components.
