    Description

    When your classic GM muscle car needs the reliability of a modern 5-speed without sacrificing the classic 4-speed driving experience, the TREMEC TKX delivers a purpose-built solution designed specifically for easy retrofits into classic muscle cars and trucks. Unlike other transmissions adapted from OEM applications, the TKX was engineered from the ground up for the aftermarket, solving the tunnel clearance and shift quality problems that have plagued gear swappers for decades.

    TREMEC designed the TKX case specifically to fit within the narrow and short confines of '68-'72 Chevelle tunnels -- meaning it fits GM A-bodies (Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, Camaro) without tunnel modifications. The three-piece aluminum housing with increased case strength provides outstanding structural stiffness, while the updated gears are machined from ASTM 4615 steel alloy -- the same high-grade material used in Magnum six-speed gears. Enhanced gear sizes and revised carbon-fiber synchronizers deliver clean shifts up to 7,500 RPM, a massive improvement over the brass synchros that went notchy above 6,000 RPM in older transmissions.

    This particular TKX variant features the wide-ratio gear set (3.27, 1.98, 1.34, 1.00, 0.72) with side shifter Rear socket position. The shifter offset places the stick 1" left, .65" or 1.15" forward of center at the 15"60" or 16.10" mounting location -- perfect for applications requiring a specific console or floor shifter alignment. The 31-spline output shaft uses Ford C6-style slip yokes, accepting 1330 U-joints for reliable driveline connections.

    This GM-pattern TKX bolts directly to GM 3 and 4-speed Muncie or Richmond bellhousings using the same mounting pattern as your original 4-speed. With a dry weight of 99 lbs and 2.7-quart fluid capacity, it ships complete and ready for installation. Made in the USA with 100% brand-new OEM-quality components.
