    Description

    Upgrading a classic GM muscle car from a 3-speed or 4-speed to a modern overdrive transmission used to mean cutting your tunnel, fabricating crossmembers, and hoping everything lined up. The TREMEC TKX changes that equation entirely. Designed from the ground up for the aftermarket, this 5-speed delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity in an end-loaded case that fits GM A-bodies - Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, GTOs, and Cutlasses - without tunnel modifications.

    This MDL-configured GM TKX features a side shift rear socket shifter with a 1" or 1.5" backward offset, giving you maximum flexibility when working around console limitations, custom interiors, or tight tunnel constraints. The wide ratio gearset (3.27 / 1.98 / 1.34 / 1.00 / 0.72) provides the aggressive first gear you need for strong acceleration off the line, while the 0.72 overdrive drops engine RPM for relaxed highway cruising and improved fuel efficiency.

    TREMEC engineered the TKX with internals borrowed from the proven Magnum 6-speed platform. Multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid sintered carbon/bronze synchronizer rings deliver smooth, positive shifts even at 7,500 RPM - a significant improvement over older 5-speed designs. The 3-piece ribbed aluminum housing provides exceptional structural stiffness while minimizing NVH, and gaskets at all flanges eliminate the leak points common in older transmissions. The internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks ensures precise gear engagement under load.

    The GM configuration uses the standard Muncie bellhousing bolt pattern, so this TKX bolts directly to your existing bellhousing from a 3-speed or 4-speed application. The 26-spline input shaft maintains compatibility with common GM performance clutches, while the 31-spline output shaft provides the strength to handle serious power. Specify ATF Dexron III or TREMEC HP-MTF fluid for optimal performance and shift quality. Built from 100% brand-new OEM-quality components.
