    Description

    The TREMEC TKX represents a ground-up redesign of the five-speed manual transmission, engineered specifically for the aftermarket rather than adapted from an OE application. Where older TKO and T-5 transmissions suffered from balky high-RPM shifts and case clearance issues in tight transmission tunnels, the TKX solves both problems with an end-loaded architecture that produces a slimmer, stronger case while delivering smooth, precise shifts even when you're banging through the gears at 7,500 RPM.

    The three-piece ribbed aluminum housing -- main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension -- provides outstanding structural stiffness while minimizing weight at just 99 lbs dry. Inside, multi-cone synchronizers paired with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon synchronizer rings eliminate the brass-on-brass limitations that made older transmissions feel notchy at high engine speeds. TREMEC further optimized durability with oversized gear widths, caged needle bearings at all gear positions, and gaskets at every flange to prevent leaks.

    This wide-ratio configuration features a deep 3.27 first gear for strong launches and a 0.72 overdrive fifth for comfortable highway cruising -- perfect for pro-touring builds and street machines that need to pull hard from a stop but cruise relaxed at 70 mph. The side-shift rear socket placement positions the shifter rearward for better console alignment in many GM applications. The 26-spline input shaft maintains compatibility with common GM clutch discs, while the 31-spline output uses a Ford C6-style slip yoke.

    Built from 100% brand-new OEM-quality components, the TKX bolts directly to any standard GM Muncie bellhousing pattern. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts of ATF Dexron III, TREMEC HP-MTF, or Synchromesh -- no exotic lubricants required.
