Description
Chevy C10 and C20 truck builders know the struggle: finding a modern five-speed that puts the shifter where it belongs. This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX solves that problem with custom machining that relocates the shifter stub to the OE position using a taller shifter housing specifically engineered for truck applications. This is not a bolt-on shifter - it is a completely upgraded transmission with new integrated components, precision-machined at MDL's facility to ensure proper fitment and function.
The TREMEC TKX foundation delivers superior shift quality at high RPMs through multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered carbon and bronze. The ribbed three-piece aluminum housing provides outstanding structural stiffness, while oversized gear widths and caged needle bearings in all gear positions optimize durability. The end-loading design creates a slimmer case profile for improved tunnel clearance compared to previous-generation transmissions.
The close-ratio configuration (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.68) delivers aggressive acceleration while the deep 0.68 overdrive fifth gear drops highway RPM for improved fuel economy and reduced engine wear. All gears and shafts are made from special grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque carrying capacity. Tapered roller bearings on input, output, and counter shafts improve performance and reduce noise, while a caged needle bearing supports the main shaft.
Direct bolt-in compatibility with GM Muncie three and four-speed bellhousing patterns using the 26-spline input shaft with GM 0.590 pilot tip and 1.375-inch OD throwout bearing guide tube. The 31-spline output shaft accepts Ford C6-style slip yokes with 1330 U-joints. Built-in reverse light switch on the left side and cruise control safety switch on the right side. Electronic speedometer output uses a 17-tooth reluctor wheel with two-wire analog sensor, plus a mechanical 7-tooth speedometer cable drive gear. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts; accepts Dexron III ATF, TREMEC HP-MTF, GM Synchromesh, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
