    Description

    When your GM muscle car needs a five-speed that can handle serious power while delivering precise shifter placement, this MDL-modified TREMEC TKX delivers an exclusive configuration you cannot get anywhere else. The front mount shifter with no offset on the shift stub positions the shift lever exactly where you need it for custom console work or specific tunnel configurations - a modification only available through Modern Driveline.

    The TKX platform brings TREMEC's purpose-built aftermarket engineering with 600 lb-ft torque capacity and 8,000 RPM shift capability. Multi-cone synchronizers paired with hybrid sintered carbon/bronze synchronizer rings eliminate the high-RPM shift problems that plagued earlier five-speeds. The internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks provides confident, precise engagement through all five gears. Close-ratio gearing (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.68) keeps the engine in its powerband during spirited driving while the deep 0.68 overdrive drops highway cruising RPM for fuel efficiency and reduced engine wear.

    The slim end-loading case design was engineered specifically for classic muscle car tunnels - it fits GM A-bodies like Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro without cutting the floor. The three-piece ribbed aluminum housing (main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension) provides superior structural stiffness while gaskets at all flanges eliminate the sealant hassles of earlier transmissions. The 26-spline input shaft bolts directly to GM Muncie bellhousing patterns, and the 31-spline output shaft accepts standard aftermarket slip yokes.

    Both mechanical and analog electric speedometer drives are included for maximum gauge compatibility with vintage cable-driven or modern electronic setups. Uses TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron III, GM Synchromesh, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, or Pennzoil Synchromesh with 2.7-quart capacity. This MDL-exclusive front shifter configuration is not available through standard TREMEC channels.
