    Description

    Getting the shifter exactly where you need it in a console-equipped GM build is one of the biggest headaches in any manual transmission swap. Standard TKX shifter positions rarely land in the factory opening, forcing builders into offset stubs, aftermarket shifters, or console modifications. This MDL-modified TREMEC TKX eliminates that problem with a short body front shift position and zero offset on the stub shaft - placing the lever precisely where your console expects it, with no guesswork and no fabrication.

    The engineering behind this modification preserves everything that makes the TKX the gold standard in 5-speed swaps. The 600 lb-ft torque capacity handles serious small-block and big-block power, while multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid carbon/bronze synchronizer rings deliver smooth, precise shifts at engine speeds up to 8,000 RPM. The wide-ratio gear set opens with a deep 3.27 first gear for strong launches and closes with a 0.72 overdrive fifth that drops highway RPM for relaxed cruising and improved fuel efficiency.

    The TKX's end-loading, three-piece aluminum case design is slimmer than the TKO it replaces, fitting GM A-body tunnels - Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, Camaro - without cutting the floor. The ribbed housing provides outstanding structural stiffness while controlling NVH, and oversized gear widths with caged needle bearings in all gear positions ensure long-term durability. Both mechanical and analog electronic speedometer outputs are built in, so you can retain your factory gauge or run a modern digital setup.

    The transmission bolts directly to any GM Muncie-pattern bellhousing and accepts standard 26-spline clutch discs. This front-socket, zero-offset configuration is an MDL exclusive - you will not find it in TREMEC's standard catalog.
