    Description

    Getting a five-speed into your GM muscle car is only half the battle—getting the shifter where you need it for console fitment is the real challenge. This MDL-exclusive TREMEC TKX solves that problem with a custom 2" left side mount front shifter positioned, 1" left, .650" or 1.150" backward offset. This configuration is not available from TREMEC and opens up shifter placement options that clear factory consoles and custom interior builds where the stock shifter location simply won't work.

    The TREMEC TKX was designed from the ground up as a purpose-built aftermarket transmission—not a modified OEM unit. The end-loading case design delivers a slimmer profile with increased case strength and fewer seams, fitting GM A-bodies like the Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro without tunnel modifications. Inside, multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon rings enable confident shifts at 7,500 RPM—a significant upgrade over the brass-ring designs that turned notchy at high engine speeds.

    The TKX is built to handle serious power with a 600 lb-ft torque rating and internals manufactured from special-grade ASTM 4615 steel. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise and improve durability, while the three-piece ribbed aluminum housing with intermediate plate provides outstanding structural stiffness. The internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks delivers robust, precise gear engagement.

    This transmission bolts directly to any GM Muncie/Richmond bellhousing pattern and includes both mechanical and electronic speedometer outputs. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts using TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron III ATF, GM Synchromesh, or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Dry weight is 99 lbs.
