Overview
When TREMEC's standard TKX shifter locations don't line up with your console or driving position, this MDL-modified unit solves the problem. This exclusive 2" left side mount shifter modification repositions the shift point 3" to the left with a 0.65" or 1.15" forward offset stub, allowing precise fine-tuning for driver ergonomics and console clearance that stock configurations simply cannot deliver.
The TREMEC TKX delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity with 8,000 RPM capability and smooth, confident shifts at 7,500 RPM. Close-ratio gearing (2.87, 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, 0.68) provides aggressive acceleration through the gears with a deep 0.68 overdrive that drops highway cruising RPM for quieter, more fuel-efficient cruising. Multi-cone synchronizers featuring sintered carbon-bronze hybrid rings eliminate shift binding at high engine speeds, a significant improvement over earlier five-speed designs.
The TKX's end-loading case design delivers a slimmer profile with increased structural stiffness from the ribbed, three-piece aluminum housing. This compact architecture clears factory tunnels in GM A-bodies like the Chevelle, GTO, Cutlass, Nova, and Camaro without floor modifications. All gears and shafts are manufactured from special grade ASTM 4615 steel for increased torque carrying capacity, with tapered roller bearings on input, output, and countershafts reducing noise and improving durability.
Designed for GM Muncie/Richmond bellhousing patterns with a 26-spline input shaft and 31-spline output shaft. Both mechanical and analog electric speedometer drives are included for instrumentation flexibility. Recommended fluids include TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron III ATF, GM Synchromesh, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, or Pennzoil Synchromesh with a 2.7-quart capacity.
